CARAMEL WORDS

Synopsis :
In a Sahrawi refugee camp, Kori, a young deaf-mute boy, learns to read lips. When a young camel is born in the camp, Kori becomes attached to him and names him Caramel. A deep friendship blossoms between them. Kori interprets the animal's lip movements as words and begins to write poems inspired by Caramel's words. Through this relationship, he discovers the beauty of writing and the power of poetry, which allow him to give a voice to his people and his dreams.

Directed by Salvador Simó
Director and writter, Salvador Simó has followed film animation studies at the LA's American Animation Institute. He has worked for Bill Melendez Prod Studio and Disney, while being a student at the CECC. He then worked for MPC on projects such as Narnia, Prince of Caspian, The Werewolf, The Prince of Persia, and James Bond : Skyfall. In 2014, he takes the lead on animation sequences for movies such as Jungle Book, and Pirates of the Caribean : Salazar's Revenge. In 2016, he joins Sapna in order to produce his first feature animation film, "Buñuel en el laberinto de las tortugas", presented at the 2018 Animation Film Festival in LA, where it gets the jury's award. The movie also gets the European Movie Award for best animation movie in 2019, and the 34th Goya award for best animation film.
Literary Adaptation
Caramel Words is a feature animation film adaptation from a book of the same name, written by Gonzalo Moure, and considered to be a classic from the genre. "Here is the story of a deaf boy who lives in a Haimas camp in the Sahara. His mother teaches him to read lips, and sign language. His best friend is a camel named Caramel."
The book was published by Anaya, illustrated by Fernando Martín Godoy, in 2002.
